All the World's a Kitchen

The Satyrikon theatre began rehearsing the play "The Kitchen" by Arnold Wesker - a playwright from the "angry young men" generation (a group that included John Osborne, Brendan Behan, Sheila Delaney, John Arden, and Harold Pinter). "The Kitchen", written by a 24-year-old playwright and staged for the first time at the Royal Court Theatre, was translated into many world languages and adapted for the screen. This is, however, the first time that the play is being staged in Russian (translated by Valentina Ryapolova).

The Age is a Treasure

The Maly Theatre has opened its 258th season – “and an old age can bring happiness if you reminisce about all good things that happened to you here”, as theatre artistic director Yury Solomin said. Prior to the opening they traditionally remembered all the deceased colleagues and greeted those who had a round anniversary of their work for the theatre (Lylia Yudina has established a record of the season – 60 years at the Maly Theatre). Another hero of the anniversary is a make-up person Olga Kremneva with 50 years of work experience, who came to work for the theatre at 16 years old. Her older sister taught her the art of makeup, their father and grandfather worked for the carpenter's workshop as cabinet makers. This year for outstanding service for art Maly Theatre’s actors have been awarded not only with commemorative medals, but also with a unique edition of the Bible with illustrations made by Russian artists.
