Doc Goes Homeless

12.12.2014

A unique Moscow Theatre.doc (Театр.doc), where plays based exclusively on documentaries are staged, has been deprived of the premises – a moderate-sized basement in a building at 11/13 Trekhprudniy pereulok – it has been occupying for twenty years. The reason – an early unilateral termination of the Rent Agreement on May 5th (the theatre’s management was not aware of this fact till October). However, the theatre’s staff is convinced that the underlying cause is the orientation of the theatre’s repertoire. Several thousand signatures of residents of 28 countries have already been gathered to support the theatre. According to the theatre’s managing director, Elena Gremina, two state theatres in Moscow and St. Petersburg, two private theatres, four art-clusters, three independent performance venues, and three capital-based real estate owners have already offered her a new place. Gogol-Centre and the State Academic Drama Theatre named after K.Mardzhanishvili have made official proposals. Back
