The play based on “The White Guard”
This episode, and rehearsals of the play, Bulgakov described eleven years later in his “Theatrical Novel”. It is known that the writer himself began his play in the middle of January 1925. It was the idea of MAT director Boris Vershilov to suggest Bulgakov staging of “The White Guard” and he invited the writer to the theatre for the first time. Yet the production “The Days of the Turbins” in 1926 was carried out by another director, Ilya Sudakov.
