“The Minor” comedy was shown

Denis Fonvizin finished writing “The Minor” in early 1782. Censors did not immediately accept this satirical play. The author strived to stage his production for several months. The most famous actors of that time - Ivan Dmitrievsky, Kozma Gamburov, Anton Krutitsky, Sergei Rakhmanov – played the first performance in the Free Russian Theatre of St. Petersburg. According to one of the first spectators, “The theatre was incomparably full, and the audience applauded the play by throwing wallets”.
