Angelina Stepanova was born
She was born in Nikolaevsk, where her father worked as an insurance agent. The family moved to Moscow when the girl was three years old. Angelina's parents loved to go to the theatre, and often took her daughter with them. The girl herself knew a lot of poems and loved to recite them in front of family. In 1921, Stepanova entered the theatre school at the 3rd Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre, the decision to take her there belonged to Eugene Vakhtangov who said: “She is a stubborn girl. If we won't take her she'll go somewhere else.” She was invited to the troupe of the Moscow Art Theatre after graduation.
