Oleg Yefremov was born
He was born in Moscow, grew up in a communal apartment in the Arbat. Together with his cousin, the boy constantly played theatre, was cutting out paper dolls and decorations. As a schoolboy, Oleg attended the drama group at the Youth Centre. In the fifth grade, when asked by a teacher about his future profession, Yefremov replied: “I will run my own theatre.” His dream came true - in 1956, together with a group of young actors Oleg Yefremov created and headed Moscow Sovremennik Theatre. Fourteen years later he became the artistic director of Moscow Art Theatre named after Gorky, and then – of Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre.
